SPARKS, Nev., December 05, 2016 – Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) congratulates the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) on the successful creation of the Dubai Declaration outlining the four pillars of an inclusive global agenda for exploration, innovation and inspiration, as well as strengthened cooperation and governance of outer space affairs. These pillars – Space Economy, Space Society, Space Accessibility and Space Diplomacy – will form the basis of future discussions leading up to the UNISPACE+50 Conference and a long-term space agenda called Space2030. This important Declaration was the result of convening more than 40 countries over five days at the recent High Level Forum: Space as a Driver for Socio-Economic Sustainable Development in Dubai.

Earlier this year, SNC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UNOOSA to work together to support the first-ever dedicated UN space mission using SNC’s Dream Chaser® reusable, orbital spacecraft. Under the agreement, UNOOSA and SNC will work with UN Member States to define a multi-country mission opportunity, providing Member States, especially those without a domestic capability, affordable access to space to develop and fly payloads for missions such as microgravity science, remote sensing, or space hardware qualification. Intended to launch in 2021, this first-ever United Nations mission will allow UN Member States to participate in a low-Earth orbit (LEO) mission on SNC’s Dream Chaser spacecraft.

About Dream Chaser Spacecraft
Owned and operated by SNC, the Dream Chaser spacecraft is a reusable, multi-mission space utility vehicle (SUV). It is capable of transportation services to and from LEO, where the International Space Station (ISS) resides, and is the only commercial, lifting-body vehicle capable of a runway landing. The Dream Chaser Cargo System was selected by NASA to provide cargo delivery and disposal services to the ISS under the Commercial Resupply Services 2 (CRS2) contract.
